Solar Panels work well on any roof facing South, SE or SW. Although your Solar Panels will perform better and produce more electricity if they are South facing, they will still perform at 86% (compared to South facing) either facing due East or West.
Solar panels can be installed on your roof or on your property. In general, an 8-panel Solar PV system is one of the smallest we would recommend, and it could easily fit on the roof of a typical three-bedroom semi. Our popular Longi panels provide the most energy per m2, allowing you to get plenty of power from a smaller roof.
No, solar panels function in all sunshine circumstances and perform best around 10 degrees Celsius. In fact, as the temperature rises, they become increasingly inefficient.
Aesthetics, value for money, performance, track record, and guarantees are all aspects that will influence your panel selection. Our engineers are well-versed in the market and can advise you on the panels that will best fit your requirements.
Your Solar Panels will come with a performance guarantee from the manufacturer. Different manufacturers provide varying guarantees, with higher levels of protection typically associated with more expensive panels. It’s wise to make sure you understand the guarantee before you purchase.
Apart from the inverter, solar PV systems have no moving parts and so have very long life spans. The inverter should last for more than ten years, panels are expected to last at least 25 years.
Most residential Solar Panel installations are completed in less than a day with minimal disruption. Scaffolding is often installed a few days before the Solar PV installation team arrives. The panels will then be installed on the roof, followed by the inverter and the inside wiring.
The lovely rain here in Ireland is great for keeping your Solar panels clean. However, it is recommended that they be visually inspected annually and that they be rinsed if necessary. Most window cleaners have a reach-and-wash method and should be able to clean your panels.
Your Solar Panels should be checked and serviced every two years.
When we install the Solar PV panels, we make certain that they are securely secured to the fabric of the structure utilising a roof hook and rail system. To prevent excessive wind loading, our panels are always installed at least 30cm in from the edge of the roof.
The inverter converts the electricity generated by your Solar Panels from DC (direct current) to AC (alternating current), which powers your home. The electricity is then sent from the inverter to your distribution board through an AC connection, where it powers the circuits in your home.
Solar PV panels alone will not provide you with electricity 24 hours a day because they only create electricity during the day. To get off the grid, you'd need other energy sources or a storage system, as well as Solar PV panels.
If there is a power outage, your inverter will shut down, preventing any generation from your Solar Panels from entering the property. This is a safety feature designed to protect workers who may be working on the grid.
If you want to be compensated for any excess electricity you generate, you'll need a smart meter. You need to contact the ESB Networks to request one.
Yes you will. As of February of 2022 the legislation has been passed in The Dáil that allows for the payment of what is called the Feed In Tariff or FIT for excess power generated by your panels. Each energy company pays different prices, so it is up to you to find a supplier and tariff to suit your needs.
